Rebecca Novak Tibbitt has more than two decades of experience dedicated exclusively to health communication. Throughout her career, she has worked with and for PR agencies, national non-profit organizations, and pharmaceutical, medical device and biotechnology companies.
She has led consumer, trade and digital campaigns to support the FDA approval and launches of numerous pharmaceutical products and medical devices. For several years, Rebecca supported the creation and update of an online toolkit focusing on pain advocacy that involved extensive medical research and writing. To complete her Master of Public Health, Rebecca served as a health policy preceptor at LIVESTRONG.
Prior to starting freelance work in 2005, Rebecca served in the Public Affairs department at Purdue Pharma. She provided strategic counsel, third-party liaison, material preparation and media relations support to Pain Management Advocacy, Corporate Security/Law Enforcement Liaison Education and Marketing/OTC departments. While at Purdue, she secured a number of high-profile media placements and worked with major non-profit organizations including the American Pain Foundation, American Cancer Society, American Chronic Pain Association and the American Alliance of Cancer Pain Initiatives.
Prior to joining Purdue, Rebecca was a Vice President at GCI Group in New York City where she led programs surrounding women’s health and cardiovascular disease. Rebecca gained further experience at Cohn & Wolfe where she served as a core team member of global and U.S. launch team for a major pharmaceutical company where she organized a media “war room” for the FDA advisory committee meeting and prepared a public relations guide for global affiliates prior to worldwide launch. She also implemented public relations tactics for healthcare clients in areas such as breast cancer, prostate cancer and women's health issues.
Rebecca is a member of the Public Relations Society of America and the National Association of Science Writers. She graduated cum laude from Ohio University’s E.W. Scripps School of Journalism, with a Bachelor of Science in Journalism, and earned her Master of Public Health from the University of North Carolina’s Gillings School of Global Public Health in Chapel Hill, with a concentration in Global Health. She regularly participates in continuing education and completed a Digital Marketing Nanodegree program through Udacity.
